The mayor of Chicago Brandon Johnson was asked to testify before the Congress Committee on the “city of the sanctuary” policies in the city.
According to a message from Representative James Commer, Chairman of the Congress Committee for Government Control and Reform, Johnson is one of the four mayors who are required to testify about policies that limit local law enforcement cooperation with federal immigration enforcement procedures.
The mayors of Boston, Denver and New York municipalities were granted messages and requests similar to the committee, according to Comer.
In addition to Johnson's demand to testify before the committee on Tuesday, February 11, the committee also requested “documents and information related to the policies of resort in Chicago.”
These documents include communications between city staff, contractors and Illinois state employees related to immigration policies.
