The Chicago Brandon Johnson mayor is implementing a new policy for the general display of the city hall gift room, which offers gifts received on behalf of the city.
Starting in April, the dressing room on the third floor will be open to the audience for one in the quarter. The audience can register for 15 minutes of time openings to visit the room between 9:30 am and 4:30 pm, the sites will be available on the basis of who comes first, according to the mayor's office.
Johnson employees said after each quarterly public offer, some elements will be donated to charities in the local Chicago. The city's ethics law prohibits city employees or officials and their direct families from accepting gifts that are worth more than $ 50.
After repeated requests for more than a month, the mayor's office recently granted the arrival of NBC Chicago inside the gift room on Monday. When asked why there was a delay, the employees pointed to “a time to organize the public viewing space and ensure that the area can be accessed for all guidelines from the mayor's office with disabilities.”
The controversy surrounding the gift room was first highlighted in January with a report issued by Deborah Witsberg, the Inspector General of Chicago. The Witzburg report stated that there was an unwritten arrangement that gifts were to be recorded in a book that would be available for public viewing on the fifth floor in the city hall.
Oig office first send a secret employee to the mayor's office to request a room. The report said that the employee had been removed and asked him to submit a request for freedom of information. This is also, as Wittsburg said, he was rejected because he was not answered in time. In January, Johnson opposed the report and said that the reporters would allow them to reach the gift room. His office opened the gift room for reporters about six weeks later.
What is in the mayor's gift room? Ultimately, the OIG office was granted a bouquet that lists the Gucci and Kate Spade bags, Hugo Boss Cuff and Mountblanc pen between other luxury materials, as well as the fireplace that the mayor was worn during the Road Road 2024 race.

The gift room created the headlines of national newspapers when the American MP Brandon Jill, a Republican of Texas, lying out of the subject during the Congress session in the cities of the Haram last week.
“For those of you who do not know, mayor Johnson has a secret gift room that does not grant access to the public or to reach the Inspector General Office. I would like to ask you some questions about that. Do you know everyone who gave you a gift since you became the mayor?” Johnson's generation asked.
“The city of Chicago was a policy 40 years ago,” Johnson began.
“This is a question yes or no,” Jill said.
The mayor and a member of Congress continued to wander orally back and forth.
“On June 12, 2023, I received the buttons of Hugo Boss and Montalink's pen. Do you know who gave you these?” He asked a generation.
“I did not receive them personally.
