Washington, DC, was the night before the session. Johnson, a preacher son, called for three priests in the Washington, DC, to pray for him.
They were collected in a circle in the building of the National Association of Cities, and one after the other, they asked for an easy appearance, and to be effective – and to disappoint its draws.
Amen, the mayor, two senior advisers, and church men said in complete harmony.
Johnson has been in the capital of the country since Sunday, when he spent hours preparing for a large day – witnessing the expected controversial Congress Committee, which wanted to barbed him about the situation of the city of Chicago.
In a quiet moment after the prayer, WBEZ Johnson asked, after all this preparatory, what point was that the Congress Committee – and the public – asked after he witnessed it.
“Chicago is safer. Johnson said:“ This is. ”We are not asking our police officers, our brave and men, to do the federal government. Getting this message will be through my focus. “
The next day, Johnson sat within six hours of interrogation along with three municipal heads, as he led this point over and over again – the violent crime decreased, at least 18 times.
He was trained to stay in this message and others – such as how the Federal Federal Basic City Law did not violate.
In Chicago, he is often criticized for repeating the same talk points. And his automatic answers made him somewhat appear tense at the session at times.
But adhering to the extent that there is no evidence that the laws of the haven lead to more crime – perhaps more effective in this preparation, in the face of a lot of aggression and wrong information about how the law of the city of Malaz Chicago works in practice.
Johnson's commitment to the talk points gave the committee's lower members to work with viewers who left with the main fast food that was the violent crime in the decline.
On the other hand-Johnson made a target for some personal attacks in particular, as is the case of American actors.
“This is why you have a 6 % approval rate, because you absorb the answer to questions,” Solouh.
“Your approval classification talks about folders,” Raad Lamud at another point.
Through this, Johnson sat with his hands folded, connecting to the eye with the liquid, for most hearing – and greatly avoid applause again to any of the insults.
But it was not a flawless performance. At one point, the United States asked MP Bayron Donalds, R-FLA, Johnson, how much the city spent to support immigrants.
In his preparatory, Johnson was advised to give a percentage, instead of the raw number, to paint the small amount of the amount in the broader context.
But perhaps let people wonder if he knows his facts.
“If you don't have a difficult number, you do not manage your city well,” Donalds said.
In general, Johnson looked happy with his performance. He met with WBEZ in an empty committee hall after the hearing to talk about this, and spoke again what he hoped would take the committee, and the public, from his testimony – that Chicago is a safer city. Why was this an important note to highlight it, asked WBEZ.
Johnson told me: “As the mayor of Chicago, my top priority is to protect the residents of this city,” Johnson told me. “And everything I do, from all the investments I make, the motivation for them is to create safer societies.”
Until then, the cameras were stopped and the pressure relieved, and he was repeating the conversation points that were tested again.
But Johnson insisted, this message was not only for the committee members. This was a message to everyone who watches and listens to the house.
He told me: “I need Chicago to know that what we do is work.”
After the conversation, Johnson walked through the street, where his first breath of fresh air in at least eight hours at that point, and it appeared to be naive when a crowd gave him a round of applause.
This was followed by a call and response “Che Town”, under a cloudy sky on Capitol Hill.
Then Johnson went home, to Chicago, where there is no lack of legislation.
