Black Mother's Health Week is observed every year from April 11 to 17.
ABC7 Chicago now flows 24/7. Click here to watch
The week is used as a national invitation to work to increase awareness of ethnic disparities in the health of the mother, especially among black women.
In Chicago, black women are likely to die six times during pregnancy, or within one year after birth, from white women, according to a report.
This contrast is often attributed to factors such as economic hardship, disparity in reaching quality obstetric care and regular racism within the health care system. It is more than the clay, most of these deaths can be prevented.
Michel Adeni from Daimat's march visited the ABC7 Chicago talking about what we can do to support black mothers.
March of Dimes also hosts an educational symposium called “Black Mother's Health: Call and Solutions”. The online event is Wednesday, April 16 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm to learn more about the event, click here.
