A full building permit has been issued for the TCA Health Nutrition and Wellness Center at 1110 E. 130. Located in Altgeld Gardens, the center was planned by TCA Health to help address the long-standing food desert problem that arose when the area lost its only full-service grocery store in 2018.
Designed by Wheeler Kearns Architects, the two-story nutrition and wellness center will include a market as well as a connection to the adjacent medical center. The center will feature a customer-selected food pantry, a teaching kitchen, a grab-and-go café, yoga and meditation space, and community meeting areas.
TCA Health is a federally qualified health center founded in 1970 to provide high-quality health care services to medically underserved and underrepresented communities in Chicago. TCA provides comprehensive primary health care and support services to more than 10,000 patients annually.
With a full building permit issued, general contractor Milhouse Construction can begin construction and work to completion.
