NBC 5 responds to a deep diving in denying healthy insurance and creative solutions that many use to obtain their approved medical treatments.

When the Witon cancer treatment was rejected days before it is supposed to start, her desperate functions have gained an unexpected ally.

At the beginning of 2024, 35 -year -old Jessica Wozniak lived a family -focused life with her husband and young daughter in Whiton.

“Just a truly chasing a little baby, most of the time. Fawznak said:” One of my hobbies, my passion is to ride horses, so I will try to do this as much as I can. “

But in early 2024, what I thought was a simple stomach flu that was found to be a medical emergency.

And Wozniak said: “It really turns your life upside down.”

Insurance denied calls for a painful teenager. His family found an alternative solution

It started with a sudden diagnosis of colon cancer in the fourth stage in June last year. Wozniak was told that cancer has also spread to its liver.

Since part of her condition was hereditary, she was given immune treatments, which she did not succeed alone for wozniak.

“Basically, I was told that immunotherapy was working to reduce stains in the liver. But doctors were concerned that () the primary mass in the colon, one of them was actually growing despite immunotherapy.”

Late last year, Wozniak said that her doctors recommended that she had collected immunotherapy with chemotherapy.

“They thought that adding chemotherapy would give me the best opportunity to reduce the size of the basic tumor in my pelvic area,” said Wozniak.

But just two days ago it is scheduled to start its joint treatment, Cigna denied its coverage.

“A doctor has alike in a pre -authoritarian and counterpart to a counterpart and told” immunotherapy does not work, and therefore should not continue to do so. “We will agree and pay the price of chemotherapy, but not immunotherapy,” said Fawzniak.

Wozniak said it was as if Cigna put a price for its recovery, and it was more willing to cover.

“I definitely thought not. Who is this person in an insurance company who decides who will live or die?” Woznak said.

That is when Wozniak, a public relations specialist, published an appeal to help LinkedIn and Tiktok, where he receives one advice that changes everything.

Wozniak said: “I was told from some people that if I am in a health care plan, the insurance plan paid by your employer is that the human resources team for your employer has some statement about making decisions that enter into these licenses.” .

The health insurance company refused your medical demand? There are ways to obtain approval. Here some

Instead of passing through CIGNA's official appeal, Wozniak said that the human resources team for its company immediately began to make calls on its behalf. To be surprised, the next day she refused to treat her, there was news.

“My husband came, the phone gave me and said (Human Resources Representative),” Well, you are approved for treatment on Wednesday. “I had no idea that human resources were very strong in this process.”

Wozniak has now completed its fifth round of common therapies, and is scheduled for another tour while doctors are preparing for surgery to remove the masses on the liver and colon.

“If there is one thing you learned through all of this, it is that you are your biggest defender. No one will do it for you, so continue to pay if you feel that something is not true. Something can be different. There must be something more. . Tell your doctors.

A CIGNA spokeswoman told NBC Chicago to review Wozniak's claim after contacting her by the Ministry of Human Resources to the employer and agreed within 24 hours.

They added that there are multiple levels of appeals that patients can request, including a review by an independent third party. The spokesman said that if your doctor requests an urgent review, Cigna will complete it within 72 hours.
