The United States will provide approximately $157 million in new U.S. humanitarian assistance to support conflict-affected populations in Lebanon and the region. This funding will address new and existing needs of displaced people and refugees within Lebanon and the communities hosting them. The aid will also support those fleeing to neighboring Syria.
This life-saving assistance from the American people includes nearly $82 million immediately available through the Department of State's Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration and $75 million through USAID's Office of Humanitarian Assistance. Of this total, USAID has already deployed $11.5 million, and together with Congress plans to provide another $63.5 million in the coming weeks, to ensure vital humanitarian assistance continues to reach the most vulnerable communities in need. This emergency assistance of food, shelter, blankets, hygiene and protection kits, water and sanitation will be a crucial lifeline for those who have suffered unimaginable hardships.
The United States provided nearly $386 million over the past year to support vulnerable populations in Lebanon and Syria affected by increasing conflict. This new humanitarian assistance comes at a time when Lebanon is suffering from a devastating humanitarian crisis, with more than one million people displaced from their homes. The United States is committed to helping the most vulnerable people in Lebanon and throughout the region. We urge other donors to join us in stepping up their contribution to meeting these new humanitarian needs.
