The former Sears store location at Oakbrook Center will be transformed into Sony Motion Pictures' first-ever immersive entertainment destination, showcasing worlds from some of the company's most iconic films, Sony announced Monday.
Wonderverse, a sprawling 45,000 square foot space, will open to the public this December in the popular suburban shopping center. With combinations of popular films and franchises including 'Uncharted', 'Ghostbrothers' and 'Jumanji', the destination will provide fans with a 'brand new entertainment experience'.
Guests will be able to participate in physical and immersive multimedia experiences, interactive installations, dynamic attractions and themed dining experiences, according to a press release. The expansive complex will include “Uncharted”-inspired escape rooms, a “Ghostbusters” virtual reality academy with two distinct experiences, a “Bad Boys”-themed racing simulator, “Zombieland” bumper cars, and a “Jumanji”-themed virtual reality chase.
“Ghostbusters” fans will be able to mingle in the hidden Ghost Trap hall — and even raise toasts with spirits. Those looking for a different experience can choose from two other bars. The Commissary Bar, led by Pernod Ricard mixologist Jane Danger, will serve specialty cocktails, mocktails and light bites. Additionally, the “21 Jump Street” pop-up bar will be open for a limited time.
The Wonderverse will also include the Commissary Restaurant, a full-service dining experience with a full menu of foods, desserts and cocktails. Although guests will be welcomed starting in December, the official opening will not take place until January.
While admission will be free, the attractions will be “priced for everyone to enjoy.” Specific prices have not been released.
Visitors are encouraged to reserve tickets in advance, as availability may be limited.
Guests under the age of 21 will not be permitted entry after 7pm, as the Wonderverse experience will become adults-only at 8pm. More information can be found here on the Wonderverse website.
