Just two weeks after the shooting near the AMC Theater in Downtown AMC, the Streeterville residents feel anxious of safety, especially when more people are outside the warmer weather.
Dozens of Streterville residents gathered in the city hall, which was sponsored by Streterville for the active population, or soar.
“The neighborhood is still on the edge of the abyss since the accident on Illinois Street near the AMC Theater two weeks ago, where the fire broke out between a large youth gathering,” 2nd Ward Ald. Brian Hopkins said.
The meeting comes weeks after the shooting near Illinois and Columbus, who was wounded by a 46 -year -old woman visiting Chicago. The officials said that she returned to her 11 -year -old son at the time of the shooting.
“Every spring, we seem to start in the same way as suddenly, it becomes warm and this type of activity floods the streets of Streterville,” ALD. Hopkins said.

The residents have long said, who attended the city hall that Streeterville today is completely different from when many have moved to the neighborhood for decades.
“There is some comfort, knowing that we live in this field,” said resident Violet Kovacific. “Here, we consider it safer, but we now realize that there is nothing like a safe area.”
The crime and safety was a top priority for the city leaders and the police who spoke at the meeting.
“We need solutions, we know that it will happen again,” Hopkins said. “We cannot sit negatively and wait for the next accident from the shooting.”
