BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (AP) — Fast bowler Chris Jordan took a hat-trick and the US cricket team lost five wickets in six balls as England secured their place in the Twenty20 World Cup semifinals on Sunday.
Defending champions England thrashed the United States by 10 wickets with 62 balls remaining in their last Super Eight match.
Jordan, who replaced pacer Mark Wood, took four wickets off five balls in his last over to defeat the USA by 115 runs in 18.5 overs and become the first Englishman to take a hat-trick in T20 internationals. He finished with 4-10 in 2.5 overs.
Captain Jos Buttler then smashed 83 off 38 balls, including five in one against left-arm spinner Harmeet Singh, as England raced to 117-0 in 9.4 overs.
England, who also beat the West Indies, finished the Super Eights with two big wins and a healthy net run rate of 1.992. Their emphatic win over the United States means South Africa, unbeaten in six matches but with a net run rate of 0.625, must avoid defeat by tournament hosts West Indies in the other match on Sunday to advance with England to the semi-finals.
The Americans' debut in the Fantasy World Cup Finals, which included a historic win over Heavyweight Pakistan Earlier in the tournament, it ended with three straight losses in the Super Eight tournament.
Jordan is the second World Cup player after Pat Cummins to score a hat-trick. The Australian fast bowler took back-to-back hat-tricks against him Bangladesh And Afghanistan.
