Briefing room
Statements and statements
We, the leaders of the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy, discussed the situation in the Middle East. We expressed our full support for ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions and reach an agreement for a ceasefire and the release of hostages in Gaza. We also supported the joint call by President Biden, President Sisi of Egypt, and Emir Tamim of Qatar to renew talks later this week with the goal of concluding an agreement as soon as possible, and stressed that there is no more time to waste. All parties must fulfill their responsibilities. In addition, the unfettered delivery and distribution of aid is essential. We expressed our support for defending Israel against Iranian aggression and against attacks by Iranian-backed terrorist groups. We called on Iran to step back from its continued threats to launch a military attack against Israel and discussed the grave consequences for regional security of such an attack.
