Joe Biden has used his first speech since he left his position to criticize the Trump administration's welfare policies.
The former president of the United States told a conference in Chicago that the government “took the hatred” to the social security system, which Donald Trump and Elon Musk – who leads the costs of cutting costs at the White House – says he suffers from fraud.
The administration wants to reduce employees at the agency responsible for spending $ 1.6 trillion (1.2 trillion pounds) in advantages annually.
Biden did not refer to Trump by name during his speech on Tuesday, but he said: “In less than 100 days, this new administration has caused a lot of damage and a lot of destruction. It is a kind of breath.”
He described social security as a “sacred promise”, adding: “We know how important social security is in people's lives.”
Biden – who was speaking at the Disabilities event – did not address his departure from the White House or the 2024 presidential election.
The Social Security Agency (SSA) provides a basic income for people in the United States retired or cannot work due to disability. It covers about 67 million Americans, especially older citizens.
Democratic politicians accused the Trump administration of planning comprehensive social security clearances.
The White House is accused of retail, citing the promises of the Republican President not to reduce social security payments to American retirees.
Trump has previously said he only intends to target claims and fraudulent payments for illegal immigrants.
The alleged members of the Ministry of Governmental efficiency in Elon Musk have made discounts for agency employees since February, with the aim of reducing 7,000 jobs – about 10 % of its total employees.
Musk described the social security as “the largest Ponzi plan in all ages.”
On Tuesday, Trump signed something that prevents illegal immigrants and “other unqualified persons” from obtaining social security payments.
Before Biden's speech in Chicago, Trump's press secretary Caroline Levit said that the president was “completely sure” about protecting the benefits of “American and older citizens who pay taxes.”
“This program will always protect,” she added.
In a post on X, SSA – which is now controlled by one of Trump – said that Biden was “lying” during his speech in Chicago.
Since the office left, Biden has been relatively decreased. In February, he signed with the Creative Artists Agency, the Talent Agency in Los Angeles, which represented it between 2017-20.
Barack Obama also criticized the Trump administration on Tuesday, saying X that the decision to freeze more than two million dollars (1.5 billion pounds) in Harvard's federal funds were “illegal and rival.”
Trump freezes the fund because Harvard said that he will not make changes to employment, acceptance and teaching practices that he says is the key to fighting alleged anti -Semitism on the campus.
