I live in a city where many government bureaucrats and citizens want to see me fail. When I first moved to Chicago over 25 years ago, I never thought I would express a feeling like this.
My life's purpose has been to serve those who are searching for Jesus in their lives and to help young people escape a life of crime and poverty. You might think that these are rational, logical goals that everyone can get behind. But we live in a deeply ideological time where everything sometimes seems upside down.
Those who want me to fail call themselves Black allies, but their actions always lead to the same song and dance: keeping Black people down and victimized.
The president of the Chicago Federation of Teachers blames white supremacy for the failure of too many black children to read and do math at grade level.

My crime here is that I believe that everyone who crosses my path is an individual with all the inherent, inalienable rights of an American. This is how I treat everyone. I don't care about your color, and I don't see virtue or crime in your skin, but I care about your soul and your personality.
However, corruption, whatever its type, is one of humanity's oldest stories. The answer to corruption is one of the oldest things known to man: faith. Faith is belief in God. Faith is a leap. Those who want to see me fail believe in race. I believe in faith.

I believe that the people I serve are kindred spirits. I believe that young people who face temptation on the streets every day are good souls who need opportunities. I believe that I am that bridge between my people and the better world they seek, both earthly and heavenly.
That's why I don't fear those who want to see me fail. Faith is light. Faith is hope. Faith is a force for resilience. Faith creates opportunities.

That's why I've never bought into the false race god. God has shown me the power of faith time and time again, and I am more determined than ever to give strength to that faith as long as He allows me to walk this earth.
There is no greater sin than betraying this faith.
