More people across Illinois are developing respiratory illness.
The Illinois Department of Public Health said the state is recording high levels of influenza, respiratory syncytial virus and COVID-19, an increase from moderate levels the previous week.
Statewide, visits to the emergency room for acute respiratory illness have also increased. About 20% of emergency department visits during the week between December 29 and January 4 were for acute respiratory illness.
Although officials said the increase is typical for this time of year, the country has seen a rise in outbreaks of norovirus, which causes vomiting and diarrhea.
