An autopsy showed the death of a man who was electrocuted by a Chicago Transit Authority third rail at the 79th Street station along the Red Line was suspicious, officials said.
An unidentified 31-year-old man fell onto the tracks and was injured around 1 a.m. Tuesday at the station, 15 West 79th Street, according to the Cook County Coroner's Office and police.
The man was taken to University of Chicago Hospitals with injuries to his body and was pronounced dead there at 11:22 p.m. Tuesday, police and the medical examiner's office said.
An autopsy conducted Wednesday showed his cause of death was electrocution by the third rod, according to the medical examiner's office, which ruled his death a homicide.
Detectives from the second district are investigating.
