Chicago, IL, May 23, 2025 (Globe Newswire) – Chicago, IL – May 23, 2025 – Project Cure is proud to welcome Doug Ruch at the Chicago Distribution Center on Friday, May 23, as part of his mission to volunteer in all fifty states. His condition has been diagnosed with peripheral cancer, Doug spends his last months of service to others, bringing sympathy, courage and care for every society he visits.
Doug's journey, which was dated to death for service and recently appeared on NPR, embodies the spirit of human service. Its stoppage in Project Cure's Chicago reflects his deep commitment to healthy fairness and help those who do not get critical medical care.
“The Doug story moves deeply and reminds us of every effect that the individual can make,” said Katie Hanlon, Executive Director of Project Cure Chicago. “Welcome to our volunteer team, even for one day, is an honor. Her inheritance in sympathy is one we will carry with us.”
At the Woodridge distribution center, Doug will work alongside volunteers to sort and prepare donated medical supplies that will be shipped to hospitals and clinics with low resources all over the world. Project Cure runs seven of these centers throughout the United States and is the largest in the world for medical equipment and supplies that have been donated to developing countries.
Project Cure has provided its international headquarters in Centennial, COLORADO, for the hope of more than 135 countries since its foundation in 1987. In 2024 alone, more than 177,000 hours supported more than 2,400 human shipments – everything has become possible by volunteers like Doug who adhere to a global difference.
Doug's visit to Project Cure Chicago is a strong reminder that it has not been too late to return the favor – and that one of the kindness can extend across the borders and generations.
