Between a global trade war, visas and tourists detained on the border were canceled, the US references were only an invitation to potential visitors.
Several news means have reported extraordinary declines in international visitors during the new Trump administration, especially from Europe.
But despite some disastrous signs, a closer look at the data shows that traveling to the United States is greatly standing – at least so far.
Almost the number of foreign travelers reached American airports this year compared to the same period last year, according to the analysis conducted by the New York Times for entry data collected from every international airport in the country.
IDPs fell more than 10 percent in March compared to last year, but this was largely because Easter fell late this year, prompting a famous travel window for European tourists. The most recent numbers show that travel during the holiday is similar to previous years.

Visitors did not stop reserving summer vacations in the United States, with one major exception.
Canadians, who were angry at the American customs tariff and the Trump administration spoke about turning their country into the state of 51, and it really seems to be boycotting the United States. Ticket sales for travel in summer, a decisive season of industry, decreased by 21 percent compared to last year.
The retreat in Canadian travelers, who constitute nearly a quarter of all foreign visitors, is sufficient for the threat of companies directed towards tourism in Florida, New York, Maain and other popular destinations.
But ticket sales for summer travel from the rest of the world decreased only 2 percent compared to the same period last year, according to data on the 25 most common ways of the reporting company, whose data covers about two thirds of global airline ticket sales.
Any decline raises concern for the travel industry, and the situation may get worse if the economies are weakened more due to the trade war or if the anti -America feelings rise. There is an extraordinary uncertainty between travel analysts about whether visitors will continue to attend the same numbers – and if so, for how long.
Part of the interpretation of arrival numbers that have not changed relatively yet may lie in the nature of travel works. Several international trips are booked months ago, and it can be difficult to cancel, and therefore even a traveler who feels that it contradicts American policies may eventually be anyway.
“What we see is that words and procedures are not always lining up,” said Henry Harvert, a aviation and travel industry analyst.
Confidence, but warning signs
US Airways expresses its confidence in international travel. In recent weeks, transport companies have said that international flight sales on US Airlines and the United Air Airlines are still strong.
Many of these travelers are the Americans who go abroad, and United has reported some weakness in sales to people coming to the United States. Andrew Nusela, the chief trading official in United, told investor analysts this month that international business in general was “flexible”.
However, the expectations for summer travel to the United States are still significantly liquid, depending on where it is looking, as indicates the data of the airline company. Summer ticket sales fell from some countries, including Germany and the Netherlands, significantly from last year, but remained fixed on other main roads. Elsewhere, including Japan and Ireland, sales have risen.

There is a great contrast even inside the regions. In Europe, reservations from Spain and Ireland rose sharply, while others fell. In Latin America, Ecuador and Mexico reduced, but Argentina and Costa Rica are heading up.
Many of the crowded summer period are still months away, and there is still time for reservations. Over the past three months, travelers have begun to reserve flights near their travel dates, a behavior that was last seen during the Covid-19 pandemic, according to Steve Solomon, chief trading official at the airline reports.
“The noise leads to uncertainty, and uncertainty leads to changes in behavior,” said Mr. Solomon. He said that the data of the organization shows the model window for international travel reservation, usually about nine and a half weeks, which was summarized by about a week between January and April.
The reasons for the decrease in reservations from some countries are not always clear, but experts say they may be more reflected in the economy than a political statement.
The policy “may be a factor that travelers consider.” “On the highest levels, does not make a big difference.”
Mr. Solomon said that some declines can be linked to currency changes. The Japanese yen was strengthened against the dollar during the past year, and summer reservations from Japan witnessed a sharp rise. In contrast, South Korea fell, and reservations decreased from South Korea. Economic growth in Germany has also stopped under the weight of the Trump administration policies.
Canadian province
However, sometimes, the relationship between politics and personal travel decisions appears to be unambiguous. Since President Trump rose his hostility towards Canada, the border crossings have decreased.

Change compared to the same day last year
Unlike air travel, land travel is often not planned months ago, so changes reflect a change in feeling more quickly. The crossings from Canada fell sharply after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau urged Canadians to “choose Canadian products and services instead of Americans” on February 1.
Traffic fell in two of the most crowded crossings, near Niagra Falls, by 42 percent in March compared to 2024. Traffic at a crowded crossing point between Vancouver and Saytel decreased by 48 percent.
Large drops along the border
Many Canadians choose to travel locally instead of going to the United States. Local reservations for the summer increased by 6 percent this year, according to data from the reporting company.
Mr. Solomon said: “It has turned around the place where people go, and more than they turned into not traveling,” said Mr. Solomon.
