Chicago shooting: A 35-year-old woman was shot and killed in Portage Park, police said

CHICAGO (WLS) — A 35-year-old woman was killed in a shooting on the Northwest Side Thursday morning, Chicago police said.

The shooting happened around 4:50 a.m. in the 5800 block of West Newport Street.

The woman was shot in the chest and was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition, police said. She was later pronounced dead, police said.

No other injuries were reported. Fifth District detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are speaking to a person of interest, police said.
