The shooting happened around 12:53 a.m. in the 1600 block of Astor Street in the Gold Coast neighborhood, police said.
A man in his 20s was walking near the Divvy bike park when an unknown person began shooting in the area.
He was hit by a bullet in his left thigh and buttocks area, according to police.
“It's very disturbing that crime has come to this part of town,” said Kevin Zidron, who lives nearby. “We moved to Old Town on the Gold Coast about ten years ago, partly because we thought it was the safest part of town, and over the last year or so it hasn't been that way.”
The man was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
On Thursday morning, CPD continued their investigation near the Divvy bike stand on the edge of Lincoln Park.
There is no one in custody. CPD District Three detectives are investigating.
