The crimes occurred on the city's northwest side on the afternoon of early October. The first was in the 1800 block of West Dickens Street on October 2 at 3:25 p.m.; The second just a half-hour later in the 2200 block of North Leavitt St on October 2 at 3:55 p.m.; The third is on October 4 at 3:30 p.m. in the 2000 block of West Churchill Street.
In each case, Chicago police said the thieves broke into the homes through a side door.
Richard Phillips' home security system captured an 18-second video of the burglary at his West Dickens home, which shook him to the core.
He said that when he returned home from work on October 2, he found his house ransacked and the lock on the back door broken.
“It appears in the video that someone has a firearm, and that to me was the most disturbing part. My sister was here with her 3-year-old, and the thought of my family being put to some kind of harm is terrifying to me,” he said.
They didn't stay long, but that was enough.
“You feel like you're really vulnerable, and you're kind of violated. They searched my drawers. They searched my bathroom drawers, and I assume they were looking for drugs,” he said. “They left it a mess and drove off.”
The same trio of masked men broke into another home on North Levitt just a half-hour later, which was also captured on video, police said.
The thieves took money, jewelry and any items of value. In the North Levitt robbery, the thieves took the entire safe.
They were seen driving a silver 2005 GMC Savana Van with Illinois registration plates 102028PV. Police said the truck had a “large dent” in the back.

Between the license plate, freeze frames and parts of surveillance video, investigators hope to thwart the team terrorizing the residents of Bucktown.
Police are looking for more video or surveillance photos of the truck that could help.
