In his first statements since he left the White House, former President Joe Biden targeted President Donald Trump's actions and urged the Americans to defend the “sacred promise” of social security.
Speaking at a conference in Chicago, Biden said that the Americans should “not betray the confidence” of those who rely on the program, which has been around for nearly a century.
“Social security is more than just a government program. It is a sacred promise we have made as a nation,” he said. “73 million Americans receive a social guarantee. We must never betray, or to manage our appearance on this commitment.”
Biden spoke to the ACRD conference in Chicago on Tuesday, where he won a prize for his work on behalf of Americans with disabilities and his management efforts to enhance social security.
In his first first speech since he left the White House, former President Joe Biden criticized Dogi's discounts for federal agencies and spending, including social security. “In less than 100 days, this new administration caused a lot of damage and great destruction – it's a kind of breathtaking that may happen soon.”
Former President Trump was accused of “taking the hatred” to the program, which he says they are doing without looking at the influences on the beneficiaries.
“In less than 100 days, this new administration has caused a lot of damage and a lot of destruction,” he said. “They have taken fighters to the Social Security Administration, which prompted 7,000 additional employees out of the door at the time.”
In addition to the plan to get rid of thousands of workers, the Trump administration faced legal audit on Chancellor Elon Musk in the management of government efficiency that seeks to obtain social security numbers for individuals and other information, according to Associated Press.
Biden also criticized management moves to change identity verification requirements, which called a wave of controversy when it was revealed. Since then these policies have been delayed until April 14, and specific groups have been exempt from the requirements.
“In addition to expanding the date of the policy validity for a period of two weeks to ensure our employees get the training they need to help customers, medical care, disability and SSI applications from personal identity because there are multiple opportunities that exist during the decision -making process to verify the identity of the person,” Lee Dodik said in a statement.
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker will lead a delegation of approximately 70 public and private sectors leaders on a commercial mission to Mexico.
The chaos of the new requirements was a source of great controversy, and Biden compared the procedures of the current administration to the implementation of startups in the field of technology in the Silicon Valley.
“They are following this old line of startups,” move quickly, break things. “They definitely break things. They shoot first and later. The result is unnecessary pain and nights without sleep. “
Trump has repeatedly pledged that he would not cut money from social security or medical care, and said he did not intend to raise the retirement age for any program. Some Republicans still float on the idea, but Biden exploded the idea during his statements.
He said: “This may not be the hardship of a person working in a comfortable job, but if you are on your feet all day, you do manual work throughout the day, and work with disability, this is a completely different issue.”
Biden ended his statements by inviting all Americans to work together to defend the program, and to protect those who benefit from it.
“Social security deserves to be protected in favor of the nation as a whole,” he said.
