The Bears announced Monday that Kabob-It is the third and final winner of the 2024-2025 Small Business All-Pros program, presented by PNC. From December 23 to January 5, Kabob-It will be featured across the Bears' digital and social media platforms as well as in-field promotions at Soldier Field during the game against the Seattle Seahawks on December 26.
Kabob-It Restaurant is located at 5706 S. University Ave. in Hyde Park, and has become a restaurant staple in the University of Chicago community, known for its comfort food, authentic and innovative. Open from Monday to Saturday, the restaurant's menu blends healthy Mediterranean cuisine with convenient halal options, creating a dining experience that will appeal to foodies looking for fresh, high-quality, healthy meals.
Founded by Chef Misha Oliver Muhammad, Kabob-It Restaurant was created to bring home-style flavors to the dining experience. Mysha's journey began in 2015 as a supervisor at the Hutchinson Dining Commons on the University of Chicago campus, where she dreamed of opening her own business and providing nutritious, healthy food to the community. Gaining experience in numerous dining roles, Maisha partnered with Chartwells Higher Education to open Kabob-It Restaurant in 2021. Her vision is to provide a welcoming, family-friendly environment where community members come together to enjoy authentic, healthy cuisine.
“At Kabob-It, we believe that good food does more than just fill the stomach, it nourishes the body, lifts the spirit and brings people together,” said Mohammed. “With every dish we serve, we aim to create a welcoming space where fresh flavors meet warm connections and honor our roots, because food tastes best when it feels like home.”
When Bears fans stop by Kabob-It, they can enjoy special kebab platters and light menu items, along with football viewing parties where guests can watch the game on big screens while savoring fresh Mediterranean cuisine with a healthy “soul food” twist.
Kabob-It's menu offers a wide range of dishes designed to meet different tastes. Their signature kebab is a favorite, featuring options like vegetarian kebab topped with tempura, chicken kebab marinated in 24-hour herbs and spices, halal boneless chicken kebab with bell pepper and onion, and fresh salmon kebab. Guests can also enjoy appetizers such as Jamaican Curried Chicken, Lemon Herb Garlic Chicken, Lollipop Drumsticks, and Smoked Beef Tenderloin. Select vegetarian entrees such as smoked jackfruit “brisket,” stuffed sweet peppers, and eggplant marinara are offered.
Kabob-It's dedication to community service extends beyond restaurant operations and the game day viewing experience. The business supports local initiatives by providing monthly meals to under-resourced homeless youth through the Hyde Park Youth Symphony Kindness Drive, the University of Chicago Black Student Organization, and by donating meals to a local group home for African American male adults living with illness. Autism. These initiatives aim to enhance the sense of belonging and enhance support within the community.
