CHICAGO (WLS) — On Tuesday night, 61-year-old Nick Barracco remained hospitalized with a fractured skull and a brain bleed after what police described as a violent attack at his workplace over the weekend.
Arrests Made After Mount Greenwood Incident
Newly released video footage shows the moments when the four suspects were arrested. A doorbell camera captured police swarming a street in Mount Greenwood early Sunday morning.
Details of the Attack
Police arrested four 20-year-old men following the violent incident at the Barako restaurant on 111th Street. The suspects, Andrew Fedick, Harry Kenny, Frank Paris, and John Powers, all from separate western suburbs, face multiple counts of aggravated battery for the attack on Barracco.
Community Reactions
The arrests were made outside Breanne Cichy’s home on Albany Street. “I hope they learn something from it,” Cichy said. “It’s not worth getting this charge.”
Incident Description
Prosecutors revealed that the four men were asked to leave the restaurant for being drunk and urinating on the bathroom floor. The situation escalated, leading to a fight at about 1:40 a.m. with four employees, resulting in Barracco’s serious head injury.
Defense’s Standpoint
Each suspect has retained his own lawyer. The defense presented a video in court that they claim shows the guards as the aggressors. Damon Cheronis, Powers’ attorney, argued, “We submitted a video today that showed that the guards, in our position, were the aggressors.”
Barracco’s Condition and Community Support
Alderman Matt O’Shea, representing the 19th Ward, confirmed that Barracco had been released from the intensive care unit and was conscious as of Tuesday night. O’Shea expressed hope that the suspects realize the gravity of their actions.
Community Reactions and Support
Messages of support for Barracco, described as a pillar of the community, are spreading throughout the neighborhood. Mike Cummings, a longtime friend and owner of McNally’s, lamented, “Some thugs come into the neighborhood and take advantage of good people. Why do bad things happen to good people?”
Court Proceedings
The judge noted that this incident was clearly alcohol-related and determined that the suspects did not pose a threat to the public. They were released and are scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
