CHICAGO — A Chicago police recruit was shot and killed overnight in the city's Lincoln Square neighborhood, police said.
The shooting happened around 12:13 a.m. Tuesday in the 2600 block of West Gunnison Street.
A 21-year-old driver, a current CPD recruit, and a 24-year-old passenger were traveling westbound when their vehicle was struck by gunfire, police said.
The police recruit was shot in the back before crashing into a parked vehicle. He was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in good condition.

According to police, the passenger was not injured.
There is no one in custody. Third District detectives are investigating.
Municipal Council Member No. 40 Andre Vasquez issued the following statement regarding the shooting:
This morning, 20th District Police informed our office that shots were fired in the 2600 block of W. Gunnison at approximately 12:15 a.m. The victim, a CPD recruit who was off-duty and driving a personal vehicle, was driving westbound on Gunnison when a white car fired several shots. The victim suffered a scratch and his car collided with a parked car. He was then taken to hospital where he was reported to be in good condition.
Detectives were on the scene early this morning. There is no information available on the perpetrator at this time.
The 20th Precinct has informed us that they will be holding a roll call tonight around 8pm in the area where the shooting occurred, so please be aware that there will be an increased police presence, including police vehicles with flashing lights.
